damn ... it will be adorned with plastic toys and tacky lawn jockys and a price 3 times what he bought it for ...

The Emperor ... he is on a mission to over inflate the price of used Rics ...

over inflate? c'mon guys. no one is making you buy them from him. anyone who pays his price made the choice on their own to do so.

But when honest, hardworking Ric players miss out on a deal like this, it kinda puts salt in the wound to watch him re-list it for $1099, when everyone knows he got it for $650.

I think if the 'Emp lists it for 1099 after buying it for 650 that is about right.

How much do you think a store might pay for a bass that they sell for 1099? Probably not much more that 650.

FWIW it the condition it was in with 1" spacing on the neck P/U I would say it was only worth 899 - 999 US , just my 2 cents worth.

I recently got a Burgundylo off ebay in near mint condition for 900 US, it was a '78.

If we can bag the odd one at 'trade' price, that can only be good for us.

anyone here ever run a retail business? profit is the name of the game. the dude's a profiteer. you seek out the best deals you can find to increase your profit margin. that's all the emperor is doing.

It's acceptable business practice, but it's still obnoxious for the rest of us who like to play the basses instead of running a business selling them.

And you have to admit, though the plastic figures are obnoxious, everyone remembers him. It's like free advertising and brand recognition.

exactly. i used to run an online cd biz through a website and on ebay and i would always send odd stickers and pictures (simpsons and weird stuff) with the CDs and it became a bit of a trademark.

Robert, I must admit that I have a sneaking admiration for his style. ( I have worked in advertising for most of my life)

Personally, I would rather see the bass in the case than in the grass with plastic creatures holding it up. Also, the lawn jockey is in extremely poor taste.

You know what? I vote with my dollar. I only spend my money at businesses I support & agree with their practices, that's why I don't shop at Wal*Mart, Guitar Center, ...or the Emperor. It may be his right, but it doesn't make it "right".

And really, we're all friends here - let's not worry about Godzilla. I say we leave that to Blue Oyster Cult.
