I feel stupid

Post by stubby »

I just gotta ask-I'm sure I could find the answer easily by searching through the forum postings but I suspect the answers I get will give me a chuckle so I'm gonna ask. I get the general idea-it's the "disease" of acquiring a Rickenbacker and then just wanting more, more, more...but the acronym GAS predates my visits to this forum. Lay it on me fellows? What is it? What does it stand for?

It is a superset of the Rickenbacker disease, and applies to a broad spectrum of desires: The Gear Acquisition Syndrome.

It took quite a while for me to work it out, Bill (and I am stupid), so don't put yourself down.

Another possibilty might be "Geared-up And Skint"!! Image

Good one Howard (I actually never really know what you''re talking about-I'm still laughing about the Jack and Jill-aroo)! I wonder too how the time changes affect the dynamic of exchanges (other posts have talked about the weird time change thing on this forum). Right now, I'm sitting here having a couple of beers, almost ready to go to bed and you're in the middle of your day (and it's tomorrow-it's frightenening, what if I die tomorrow?). I have to think that, at the moment, I have a leg up on you! Poor old Howard.

I worked with a guy on the ice who referred to beer as 'breakfast cylinders'...

I was at the South Pole one year, staying in the construction camp. It was 'open berthing' for us, and my army cot was four feet away from one assigned to a heavy equipment operator from Maine. I knew he was a bit of a drinker, but I wasn't prepared for the first time I heard his alarm clock go off at 5 a.m...I opened one eye and watched him go through his morning routine, which consisted of sitting up, swinging his legs off the bed, reaching for a bottle of gin, filling a large tumbler full and then downing it in one long gulp. Room temperature gin!

Beer on corn flakes sounds positively healthy by comparison...
