At least he's honest about the bass. I hope he gets a decent price for it. As far as the neck crack repair goes, if the bass is stable, I wouldn't be afraid of it. I have a V63 with a long neck crack down the treble side that was professionally repaired and it has worked beautifully. The scar is visable, but the neck is solid as a rock.
I recently went back to playing a Rickenbacker bass. Its like meeting an old friend again
