Know Anything About Gibson Acoustics?

Post by indytone »

I have an EC-20 Starburst (Natural) model and am wondering if it's the same thing as Gibson's later released J-180 EC model.

The reason I'm a bit confused is because the model number listen inside the guitar is EC-20 Starburst; however, when I was looking up the blue book value of the guitar I ran across a photo of the J-180 EC and they were identical. Even the description is spot on. Oh, and their blue book values are very close.

For example, some eBay comparisons:

Hi Anthony, I have an EC20 Starburst as well, and a nice guitar it is too, and quite rare as a lefty!. Regarding the Blue book photos, someone has made a "technical error" and put the wrong photo in. I noticed it too.

Peter: I emailed Gibson last night and the responded today. Looks like it's no error:

Hello Anthony,

You are correct the Starburst EC-20 was later renamed the the J-180 EC. Thanks for your inquiry to Gibson.
