How to date guitar?

Post by keith »

I have a 90s 381V69 that I bought used a few years back. I cannot remember the year it was made. I can't find a serial number or anything. Is there some way to date the guitar?

Thanks!

The serial number is stamped on the output jack plate. There should be an alphanumeric code. You can decipher it on the Rickenbacker website.

Also note that the new Rickenbacker serial system which is completely numeric began in December 1998 if I remember correctly, so that month and 1999 would be an exception to the alpha-numeric coding.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Welcome, Keith, not incidentally.

Remember to take off your Blue Blockers...

Thanks all - I thought that number on the jack plate was a part number or something!

My guitar was made in July 1990.

Howard, you're slipping. It took over three hours. I was waiting with a stop watch when I read Keith's post.

A sprained ankle slowed me down, Paul!

Jeepers call me late for dinner or what? Here I thought this thread was about dating a guitar.

I thought someone had finally gone over the top and was giving tips on the subject.

Sorry, Joe. I didn't look at the name of the poster, did I?? I guess I expected that sort of response from Paul.

Pays to be observant, doesn't it? Glad you're keeping watch.........

Hope your ankle recovers, although a sprained fretting hand is more likely, I would think.

Or a sprained wallet...

Apparently Aitch's ankles are more delicate than Audrey's.

And his wallet more robust.

Howard Golightly? Breakfast at Rickenbacker's? Remember?
