I respect victor's talent... I would be 100x better if I only knew what he forgot technique wise, but I can't really get into his style of music. I'll take John Paul Jones over him any day.

Edit: I really like a lot of his Bella Fleck and the Flecktones work.

To address the original question start reading bass related magazines and you will hear all about him.

You have to admire his technique. Brilliant, but in the context of his music, it doesn't get it done for me personally. I saw him last year and the show was awful. Much OTT soloing from his brother on guitar that was very self indulgent. In his showcase he showed what he can do and that was a pleasure.

I was just over at a friend's house watching Zep at the Albert Hall in 70. JPJ really drives the band, along with Bonzo of course, and his playing within the context is so masterfully sublime. Extremely underated....

Victor Wooten's a big Ampeg guy. I first saw him with Bela Fleck and the Flecktones and was blown away buy his style. Definitely something to be learned from his style.

He is an awesome bass player! I saw him about a year ago and not only was he playing bass, but his entire band each played an unbelievable bass solo.

I'm not into that kind of music, but it was one of the best shows I've been to.

Okay Yes I do agree there. The song was kind of corny. I mean it sounded like those old singles that 50 artist would sing in for like something. Okay... not a good descibtion. But the bass was awesome. I only listned to the cd once... I didnt pay attention to the lyrics much.s

I want to learn Victors technique. This is from Anthony[Victors bass tech.]

Hey ken,

I'm in Nashville right now teaching at Victor Wooten's Bass/Nature Camp. I've been in the 'woods' all week. That's why I haven't gotten back to you.

Thanks for the very kind email. If you ever want to get together for a 'one-on-one' lesson give me a call.

I tend to agree with Scott. Soul Circus is pretty darned cheesy. Show of Hands and What Did He Say? are both excellent, and I will be there both nights when the Flecktones hit Richmond in January.

But Soul Circus was a let down. Especially from someone with 8 arms.

I'm planning on going to see him when he comes to Osaka in November. I always preferred Oteil Burbridge back in the Aquarium Rescue Unit days though...
