LIGHT SHOW!!!

Post by red_rob »

Just realised it was my 331st post and thought I'd celebrate in the only true way.

Got a while to go before I catch up with the likes of Paul though...

Cool, i've never seen a Mapleglo one before.

Also, what pickups are those? They look weird in the pic.

I have been arguing for a Lightshow reissue for years. They are, by far, the coolest Rickenbackers ever (in my opinion)!

Lovely pic, Rob! Ever thought about putting vintage knobs on it?

Hmm... Yes, a very strange looking pickup set. What is it?
A Rickenbacker bass is much like the Jaguar E car - perennially ultra-fashionable.

If you don't mind me asking, Rob, what is the wire that is running from under the lower pickguard to what looks like the input jack? It looks like it was supposed to go to the light circuit control pot, but I don't see the pot and don't recall ever seeing the wiring come out from "hiding" like that anyways.

WOAH WOAH WOAH

woah

That stunner doesn't belong to me! Sorry for the confusion guys. I was marking my 331st post by starting a thread about the beauties - not buying one!

Sheesh, my 4005th post is going to be expensive...

and for the record it looks like a neck toaster and a bridge HG to me

Looks like a Gibson mini humbucker in the bridge position, to me.

Well I feel a bit daft now actually H

I think you're right about the HB Mark.

Just how rare are 331s anyway? For how long were they made and how much do they go for? Anyone got pictures of one they ACTUALLY own?

Don't feel daft at all, Rob! If you actually had one, I'd be booking a flight now just to 'ave a gander'!!

I think there are 2 or 3 forumites who own one, but I suspect there are more than a few hidden away in locked cupboards or bank vaults around the world!

Yes:

In addition to not having the original pickups, the MG 331 pictured in this thread doen't have the original light circuit. With the lights on, you can see there are 'too many' lights (thats my take anyway, it could be the way it was photo'd), and most likely that wire going in the body is providing the power - it doesn't look the the original power jack is being used at all. With the lights out you can see that the 'light boards' are gone - the original boards are a light cream/white color and you can see how dark it is in the body. I have no real information on the guitar, but my gut says it 'lights up', but really no longer has a circuit to provide a 'lightshow'... too bad. Anyone know more about it?
