How many Montezuma Browns??

Post by stevefox »

Hello Everybody.
I'm just curious.
I bought my Monty 4003 without knowing at the time that they where one of the limited one/two year only colour options.
Does this make it more of a collectable Ric in the long run??
Should I be looking after it just that little more than if it was a standard colour??(Yeah I know, should be looked after anyway but you know what I mean!)
And also, how can I find out exactly how many monty 4003 threes wher manufactured?(Purely out of curiosity)

And a last point thats not related, how many of you REALLY love the Smell of your Rics?? And do the old ones smell the same?? My Ric has the most awsome smell, evertime I open the case it hits me, its fantastic, and after a year of owning her the smell is still there, I hope it never goes!! lol!

Anyway, hope you all keep enjoying and loving your rics as much as I love mine, they sure are addictive!

Finish color can certainly influence selling prices. We see it today with the less poplular colors from the 70's like Azureglo, Autumnglo, Walnut and Burgandy. In time, I suspect Montys will be fetching a color premium too.

Rickenbacker management rarely discusses production totals unless the instrument is an official "Limited Edition".

Steve, the smell is the glue used in the case.

Hi Dave.
Really? Man it smells good! I seriously thought it was the finish they use or something...oh well.
What is the final finish anyway?? Its not Nitro(To hard wearing) and its not Poly(Too thin), what is it??

It's impossible to say how many were produced . . . because we haven't delivered all of them yet due to the long order backlog. When they're all shipped, however, we'll make a point of posting the total.

As has been discussed many times previously, the finish is catalyzed conversion varnish.

I bought my one and only Ric guitar, a 660 in MB. I think they look great with gold pickguard. Paul Boyer added it to his 4003, and it looks great.

Martin - that is a great pic of a Monty. Most pics you see of that color have too much yellow.

Yeah, that picture pretty accurately captures what Montezuma Brown looks like. I was actually looking to get a mapleglo (initially I wanted jetglo, but then I thought that I would be too much of a Geddy imitator that way, despite how good it looks), but the store only had one Ric and it was the Montezuma Brown, and man is it gorgeous. I wouldn't change the color for anything except an obscenely huge amount of money.
