Did Rickenbacker ever stamp the end of the headstocks of their guitars with model numbers or dates?
Did Rose, Morris ever do this at all?
The reason I'm asking is I've just noticed stamped on the end of my 1997 the model # and what might be a shipping date 2 66. The s/n is EJ and this looks like it's been there a long time. I've gone over the headstock on my 1999 and no such thing is on it.
I doubt it was done by Rick as 1997 was the RM #.
Could RM have done this to a batch of Guitars being sent to Oz for ID purposes so as not to confuse the locals who might not have known the diff between 1997/8's etc?
Puzzling...

I have never seen this , but I don't see any Rose Morris guitars , you will have to find some one in the UK for that , or email John Hall directly for that info .
I doubt that they ever did .
Gretsch did , but I have seen other guitars with funny serial number stampings on the end of the headstock (some Gibson and Harmony) but this was NOT a factory stamp . Most likely a number stamped by a store for records , as some one could NOT find the serial number ...they did not look at the jack plate. DUH!!!
