Tension of Flats & Rounds?

Post by tim4003 »

Something I've wondered about. You read everywhere that the 4003 neck was "beefed up" for the higher tension of round wound strings, yet flat wounds are under more tension! Were lighter gauge flats used in the days of the 4001?

D'Addario had this info at their web site .

The tension difference between round wounds and flat wound was in fact an issue , however that is no longer the case .

HOW the string is made (flat or round wound ) IS the issue . You can make a high tension flat wound (Roto Sound Jazz sets) or low tension flat wounds (Tomastik )

Rounnd wounds are the same deal .
At one point in time , this was not the case .

Times change.
So you too want yours "ALAPWOB"?!?!
