SEPERATE VOLUME CONTROL FOR 350v63

Post by steve350v63 »

I am a very proud owner of a RIC 350v63. The only thing that drives me crazy is the combination volume/tone and volume/bass pots.
I use two guitars when I play. My strat has a seperate volume and I set my amp's volume once and I am done.
Is there a way to wire my RIC so I can control the volume like the Strat but not effect the great tone of my RIC? Please help.

Steve: My recommendation would be to use the fifth knob as a volume control for the middle pickup. I have made this modification and am very satisfied with the result. You can read about it here.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Peter, is there a place I can find a wiring schematic of this guitar.

O.K. what do you guys think of this? Take the wires off the R5 pot and connect them together.
Take the hot wire off the output jack and and now put the R5 pot in series with the output. I would keep the R1 Bass/Volume and the R2 Treble/Volume fully open and use R5 as a volume pot.
Wouldn't that work?

Well, sounds okay, but Peter's suggestion using the blend pot for middle pickup volume is the real ticket. I've wired up several of my Ricks this way and you can get every conceiveable pickup variation plus total control of one pickup's influence over another. The combinations are endless. Certainly, single volume control has it's advantages, but so does single tone control. Maybe what you really need is a two control setup. Ricks used to come that way, once upon a time.
Show him the shirts, Adrian.
