RICKENBACKER FORUM CALENDAR for 2006

Post by jingle_jangle »

It is a bit late to be doing this, but better late than never.

I've gotten permission from John Hall and Peter to produce 2 Rickenbacker Forum calendars for 2006.

There will be a guitar calendar and a bass calendar. Each calendar will have a cover image and a different image for each month, for a total of thirteen images per calendar.

So, of course, I'm soliciting good pictures of member's guitars and basses.

Some criteria:

The theme of this calendar project will be a celebration of the beauty and variety of Rickenbacker guitars and basses through the years. The plan is to include pictures of guitars from each style trend, from the 1930s through the present time. There will also be some surprise pictures which will be revealed later.

In keeping with this theme, what I'm looking for will be well-photographed pictures, either of single guitars or multiple instruments, or nice detail shots like the small example posted here. Please, no people in the shots, no Godzilla action figures or things of that type, and no "girlie" stuff.

Any member of the Rickenbacker Forum may submit photos, subject to the criteria stated in this post.

Maximum number of pictures submitted can be ten per member.

The pictures may be in landscape or portrait format, 150 DPI minimum (300 DPI is better), at least 8X10" at this resolution.

Pictures may be cropped and/or retouched by me, although every effort will be made to render the guitars in as much detail fidelity as possible.

Because of the size of the digital files, they should be sent to me snail mail in any sort of removable storage media, but your media will not be returned.

So I'd advise burning a CD-ROM with your digital images on it in .jpg format.

If you wish, you can send large analog prints, if they are clear and rendered on glossy paper.

Lastly, please provide written descriptions of the year and model of the guitar or bass.

In the event of any sort of dispute or confusion over the selection of images, those images which qualify or their proxy tickets, will be picked at random from a hat (we'll use my "Grumpy" baseball cap). Decisions will be final.

If response is sufficient, we'll be doing this in subsequent years as well.

Depending upon the number and quality of submissions, selection will be based upon artistic and technical merit; in other words: how well does the subject matter conform to the theme, and how well will it reproduce?

Those whose guitars and basses are selected will be credited in a caption on each picture.

Image

The example above shows a detail shot, although it is possible that the picture featured could be of an entire instrument, several instruments, or a montage of photos of one instrument, combining whole body shots with a number of details.

So here's your chance to shine!

Send your prints or CD-ROMs to:

Paul Wilczynski
AAU IDS Department
1849 Washington St. Suite 360-A
San Francisco, CA 94109

Please, no registered mail, although UPS and FED EX are OK.

Deadine for submissions will be January 15th. That's six weeks from now. I'd like to get the calendars completed by February first. I know that's a bit late, but we'll do better next year!

GREAT idea Paul....well done. Looking forward to sending you a pic. Any chance we could send a jpeg version to you before snail mail? You could make decisions from the lesser quality image?
'Rickenbacker'...what a name! After all these years, it still thrills me.

"no Godzilla action figures or things of that type."

...You mean the Emperor can't put an ebay ad in the calender?!? LOL

Great idea Paul, I would like to send you a pic of my 4004Cii5 basses.

I can certainly judge content and composition from small .jpgs. But suitability for printing must be judged by viewing the actual files, of course.

Also, my accepting of a small .jpg or any digital file, does not guarantee inclusion.

So, send away!

The Emperor can do his own d****d calendar!

So Paul, I heard about the calander being done, last year or maybe the year before, so I'm new to the procedure of how to get one.

Will it be in hard copy form or available for download, and can anyone on the forum request a copy? Do we need to advise you of an expression of interest?

I'll have to read the manual for my camera....

Section 2: How not to take ****** photographs
Section 3: How to keep your fingers away from the lens

etc...etc...

Great idea, Curmudge!

It will be a regular, old-fashioned antique thing, printed on papyrus with vegetable inks and available from my pyramid by camel mail.

Cost for this wonder will be $14.99, and you will order from cafepress.com, as soon as they are done.

Cafepress.com, as some of our members may recall, are the same folks who produced our tee shirts and coffee mugs during the reign of the last Pharaoh, Rick the 12th.

This will be our first official calendar since the moon was discovered. So that calendar last year (or was it the year before?) must have been an impostor, and it will be properly dealt with as soon as we can get our hands on one.

As another Pharaoh once said, "Bring 'em on!"

Somewhere on a recent post I suggested that you might be a workaholic. Well I take that back. You are one! LOL

What a great idea. I just wish I had a guitar or bass that was pristine or unique enough to be added to a calendar. Oh well, but I do look forward to obtaining a copy of the finished result.

Brian, pristine is not a requirement. Rick spirit is. Image

Look at the above photo...although it is of somebody's sad old Jagmaster (with deArmond pickups!), nobody could deny the charm of its tragedy.

I don't wish to produce a "Rickentragedy" calendar, there is beauty in rust and chipped paint as much as in pristine stringed virginity.

Did I just say that?

I can't believe you said that either.

OK (back to the discussion at hand)well all I have is Jet Glo and White Rics for some strange reason. Anyway I'll take some shots and see how they turn out.

When Melissa sees your post expect a big eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeew!!!!!

A fine idea Paul. I can hardly wait to see Tony's shoes.

I can hardly wait to see one or two of your magnificent examples in the calendar, Peter. Your pics are great!!

Somebody posted shots of a Midnight Blue (I think) 360V64 some time ago too - that was tops also!

It'll be a "Must Have" here!
Any mugs or t-shirts in the pipeline Paul? Or are they still available?
Great work, keep it up!
