Easy way to re-string your Ric

Post by dead_eye »

My Ric 360/6 is now 10 months and was in bad need of a thourgh, deep cleaning. But I had read so many horor stories about taking all the strings off at once, and then fighting the R tail piece, so I kept putting it off until today. What I did was take off the A,D,G,and B strings and left both E strings on, but loosened a little bit, it works great, the E's hold the R tailpiece in place yet you can get into all the tight place thats impossile to get to with all the strings left on. I pulled out my trusty gun cleaning kit and grabbed the .30 cal patches, and they work great, they're all cotton and just the right size to get into all the nooks and crannies, including the fretboard and headstock. After I got all the tight, hard places, I put on the new strings (A,D,G,B) then I took off both E'e and replace with new ons's, then I finished waxing the rest of the guitar. It's a piece of cake done this way.

I solved this by replacing the R tailpiece with a vintage style one.
