Horseshoe Pickup Bobbin Dimensions

Post by rickcrazy »

I only have a rough idea of the horseshoe pickup bobbin dimensions. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Length - 3 1/8", width - 1 2/8", height (= top and bottom flatwork thicknesses plus clearance between top and bottom flatwork) 3/8".
Polepieces diameter: 2.5/8". Many thanks.
Yeah, I'm on my way to my next masterpiece...

Well? Anyone? Rest assured, I am not trying to copy the horseshoe pickup bobbin design, really. Additionally, can you tell me what stuff are the coil form top & bottom pieces made of? Vulcanized fiber? Fiberboard? And how thick are these? Many thanks.

Thanks to Andrew Winter (Wints) for enlightening me on the 'shoe p.u. bobbin design.
Meanwhile I have been a busy little beaver. Meaning, I have built a much improved treble pickup which I have installed on my 1980 4001BG. My newest creation is so HOT it blows the original bridge p.u. out of the water and drowns out the neck p.u. (despite a minor modification I made to the latter a few weeks ago). So, next time you find the treble p.u. on your bass is not kicking as much a** (with the C3 cap installed, that is) as you need it to, you come to me (You know, I always wanted to say that line!). Thanks for reading, guys.
