I am seriously considering a used Cheyenne I (Walnut wings, gold hardware, etc.) in very good condition, never gigged. I like it quite a bit.
Does anyone have an opinion as to how much one would be worth?
Does anyone have any "horror stories" or reason why it would not be a good axe to own?

The current edition of The Blue Book of guitars values it at $850 for 95% condition and $750 for 90% condition.
These are only guideline values and should not be taken as gospel.
I think the publisher needs to update the values in the Rickenbacker section of this book. They seem low to me.
I have never seen a Cheyenne bass in person or had the opportunity to hear one. They certainly aren't as popular as the 4001 or 4003.

John-- Funny you should post on this right now. It was right about this time a year ago that I bought mine. Got it from a guy in Atlanta who had bought it new for use as a session bass in his recording studio. It barely got picked up off the stand, let alone played, during the 9 years or so that he had it. He finally decided to sell it, and I happened to be in the right place at the right time. For all intents & purposes, it was a brand new bass (minus the original case) and I paid around $800 for it.
Great bass in every way. Very light. Super fast fretboard action. Beautiful to look at. Nice tone for humbucker pick-ups. I sent it to Mark Arnquist and had him convert it to a fretless and install Thomastik-Infeld Jazz flatwounds. Couldn't be happier with the purchase.
If the condition of the bass you're looking at is equal to the asking price, then go for it. You'll have a helluva nice bass. It definitely has a Rickenbacker tone, but don't expect it to sound like a 4003/4001-- it won't. It's not supposed to.
Hope this helps in your decision.
