Gigspam SOCAL.

Post by s4001 »

Hi,
I play in a classic rock cover band and we'll be playing Henessey's in Laguna Beach tonite (sat 17th) and next friday 23rd. We'll be playing from 9-1. Long nite..

I'll be bringing the Rics, of course. I think tonite I'll play my old trusty '68. It's kind of my good luck charm. Whenever I play a new gig, or audition or venture into uncharted waters, it acts as my security blanket. On top of that, it seems to play itself... I just stand there and get credit for it.

Next week I think I'll bring out the CS. Maybe put some DR's on it.

Fun place. Me'n buddies would ride Ortega on our bikes and stop there for coffee, on Sunday mornings...

I'm making me homesick.

I remember a place right along PCH on the beach called California 500 in Huntington Beach ,I wonder what that is now?

Also there were a chain of bars called The Red Onion, are they still around?

What about Rainbows on sunset in LA???

Rainbow is still there. Archaeologists will unearth it and it will be as preserved as the mummies in Egypt with Lemmy inside. The future archaeologists will declare him the pharoh.

Red Onion is long gone. (Boy, those were some memories..)

Perqs is still at downtown HB, but recently (four years or so) a bunch of rebuilding has gone on and a few clubs there have been changing hands fairly frequently. All the new building has been hell on traffic there and it's getting steadily worse...

I owned a house on 11th St. in downtown HB back in the '80s. I remember when the Golden Bear simply closed one night and never reopened. No explanations given.

Real explanation: Corruption and developers and graft.

Now downtown HB looks like Palm Springs on the Ocean. Big Bux tacky.

That's progress...

Gig update.

Yesterday one of the g*tarists called in sick for the gig. Fortunately our lead g*tarist had a buddy that could fill in.

Good news is we played the place SRO. Note to all musicians: play Laguna. Lots of people who want to hear bands. Lots of people who want to dance until 2am. Lots of women who dance and occasionally drop garments, making it tremendously difficult to sing and play bass at the same time.

And to all in attendance, they made witness to the fact that you can slap a Ric.

Scott, congrats on your gig! Sounds a lot like our frozen Michigan gig last night! (Which was captured on video, by a stroke of luck!) We had a fan of ours come in from Chicago to see us and he videotaped the show for us! Can't wait to put that on DVD!

I live in Laguna Beach and Scott's comments are spot on, especially since MTV's show. Gays do make up about 20% of the population but generally are quite low key and are some of our best citizens. The problems we do have are almost invariably from visitors to the city, more commonly due to alcoholic excess, irrespective of orientation.

On "my" cove, people lay out on the beach all year with no problems.

No website. They were an existing band that I joined a few weeks ago.

Kenny, I think I'll take you up on your offer, thanks. I'll drop you a line.

When I was out there was 85-87 for about a year or so. Laguna, was beautiful, we wanted to live there until a couple unfortunate incidences on the beach.

That summer is when a riot broke out right next to me at the OP PRO SURFING CHAMPIONSHIPS in Huntington Beach, because some girl took off her top and the police told her to put it back on,next thing you know cop cars were getting flipped over and helicopters were buzzing up and down it was crazy,100,000.people in a stampede on the beach.

That year my buddy and I got drunk and decided to ride our motorcycles down the pier in Redondo Beach of course we were thrown in jail.for a few days,

Incredibly stupid you never drink and ride.

LOL!

Probably seemed like a good idea at the time...

Laguna ain't too bad. We take our son down there all the time and hang out. I think the main drag there is kinda boring with all the galleries 'n such, but he likes the playground at the beach.
