Nitpicking... spray pattern on newer models

Post by ricrocks »

Sorry to be a nitpicker. But while looking at countless 330/360 series pics on the web, I began to notice that the spray job on the *newer* fireglo finishes looks kinda weird.

The red edge on the bottom part of the front of the body doesnt follow the contour. Instead, its almost straight across from just below the slash, giving the yellow burst a *flat tire* shape, instead of rounded. Kinda looks like the bottom was dipped in a bucket of paint lol :P Maybe its intended to accentuate the R tailpiece, but it hurts my eyes. If you look at the back though, the red follows the contour.

I understand that different painters use different techniques, but it seems that every *new* one I look at is sprayed this way.

You may think it looks "weird" but to the literally hundreds of people who asked us to change the Fireglo shading back so that it is as it was in the Sixties, it's glorious. (See page 111 of _Beatles Gear_)

We went to a great deal of trouble to standardize this spray pattern, putting large photo blow ups in each spray booth of George Harrison's guitar. Each of our shaders now does that pattern you don't like- perfectly and repeatedly.

I guess I can't win. These are the kind of things that make me want to retire quickly and sell out to an Asian high bidder.

Whoa Mr. Hall! Don't scare us like that!!

Although, as individuals we sometimes have differing viewpoints about certain aspects, we all love RIC's!

Here's a win for ya: I like your MB color choice this year!

Mr Hall, I gotta second that whole thing about the new finish for this year. I was hoping something like that would be the finish of the year, but it has easily exceeded my expectations!
I'd like to have four or five Ricks in that finish. And one of the reasons I like it is that the 'bursts that ya'll do are soooo very cool! I've got a fireglo 4001v63 and the spray pattern on that is very very nice! Please don't sell out, at least until my 350v63 Montezuma Brown is finished...
"This is the big one, Elizabeth, I'm coming to join ya, honey!"
