George's 425
George's 425
If George's 425 was originally Fireglo and then refinished to Jetglo, why was the 425V63 reissued in Burgandyglo?

It really is a great finish.
I saw your name on a site about the Futurama guitars. It said that you own one. What do you think of it and how hard are they to come across. What price would owners place on it.
Thanks.

I think it was available in those colors because when the 425 was first produced in the early sixties, Burgandyglo and Fireglo were the only finishes offered. So, it is to be period correct. And jetglo of course because that is what Harrison painted his into.
"Here he is, come to pay homage to the Rickenbacker display!" (Said to me by owner Bruce at the "Great House of Guitars" in Rochester, NY)
Was the reissue available in Fireglo? It seems strange that it wouldn't be.

Brian, I have the spec sheets on those somewhere, but I remember Jetglo & Burgandyglo being the only finishes that the 425V63 was offered in. Same with the 450V63. I'd love to see a C series version in the not-too-distant future based on the 1962 version in original Fireglo and also Jetglo because I want another "George" guitar, having missed out on the very limited V63 version.
Jeff, have you changed emails?

Brian, Futuramas are very rare. Especially with the exact features like George's. If you look at the Graziozo in Beatlesgear that guitar belonged to me and I paid $2500 for it. It's the only one besides Georges that I've ever seen with all the correct features. The guitar played and sounded great, contrary to what George said about his. There are some good photos of George playing bar chords quite easily on his Futurama. I think his memories of the Futurama were tainted because he actually wanted to be playing a Fender Strat. If we can get Sean O'Mahoney to pull George's guitar out of his closet in London we can varify that the action really was very good.
Great photo in the book Larry. Have you sold that guitar? You refer to it in past tense.
I don't know who Sean Mahoney is. Obviously he owns the guitar, but who is he and how did he come across it. Thanks for sharing the story.

Brian, yes I sold the Graziozo to a good friend to pay for a trip to England for my family(no regrets). Sean Mahoney was the editor for Beat Instrumental magazine back in the 60's. They had a contest and gave away George's original Futurama. When the kid came to claim his prize he took money instead and Sean still has the guitar. There's a great picture in one of the Beatle monthly magazines(Sean was editor for this magazine too) which shows The Beatles around the Graziozo case and it's filled with envelopes. This had to be taken when they picked the winner. You can't see the guitar as it's completely covered. If someone could post it here I can e-mail you a digital photo of that photo.
Thanks Larry. Cool story. Amazing the differences in personalities between George and Paul. George gave away countless guitars ( I may be overstating) and Paul seems to have every piece of equipment that wasn't stolen or destroyed. I'm not passing judgment, just an observation.
Thanks again Larry
Thanks again Larry
