Serious question:
Would that be considered a modification, or an upgrade as far as collectablility???

An irreversible (and unnecessary IMHO) mod. Drilling a collectible bass for a non-original part will affect its value. If you still want to do it, at least get a replica pickguard, and keep the original intact.

I would say it is an improvement to a v63 ...

An improvement doesn't necessarily improve the value of an instrument. If you put a better bridge on a Ric because the standard Ric bridge was messing up, the value of the bass would drop siginificantly, especially if you had to rout the bass a bit to put the new bridge on. It doesn't matter whether it's a better bass now.

Wow, I have never heard of a v63 as being "collectible" in the sense that modding the pickguard would ruin its value. Maybe an original, but a vintage reissue series? My, the times have changed!

Crazy isnt it??
I bought my Mapleglo because I wanted a bass like Chris Squires original.
Then they quit making them, with the recent sky-rocketing prices, you gotta wonder about these things.

I would say adding the finger rest does little to change value ... but it does make it more like a 60s bass ...

I agree Jeff. I have seen a hell of a lot worse done to these basses

I've considered adding one to my 85 V but just can't get myself to do it. It does have a nice HS...

It will make your bass that much more authentic looking!

Andy that has to be a 60s horseshoe by the shape of the surround, and by the look of the pickup probably NOS when that bass was new.

That's what I think also, it has the old style pole pieces in it and the shape and thickness of the shoes is correct for that era.
