Just won a beautiful FG 360/12VP on Ebay. Can't wait to get this baby! Now I just have to buy that Roger McGuinn DVD....

Wow, you got a good deal on that, I paid $1300 for my 360-12VP, without the vintage case. Let us know how it goes with that D chord ...

Congrats! You got a good buy on that one. I had an email in to him to see if he'd take some extra $ and swap out the stock case for silver tolex (the one he supposedly had on another auction...which I never did find) and never heard back from him.
No biggie as about the same time I saw it gone with the Buy It Now, I got an email from Jim saying the 370-12 FG VP was still available that he had listed here in the for sale section...so we're both happy today. On top of that, about an hour ago I got an email back about a 360V64 I had an offer in on...feast or famine. LOL! At least I know I've got a 12 comin' back into the stable in a few days.
Good luck, I'm sure you'll be pleased if it plays as well as it looks.

I really can't wait to experiment around on the 12. I do want to play some of the "traditional" Ric 12 string music, but I also want to try to work it into the blues I love. Maybe some slide and a bit of overdrive. We'll have to see...

Monty, congrats on your new Ric! He offered to throw in the vintage style case for an extra $200, but I opted to keep the standard case. $200 seemed a bit much for a case, even though they do look amazing.

Well done Sean...a great buy.

I have to take issue with a couple of things in the ad though. He says "You can pick up a great guitar, along with the "correct" pickups". Since when have toasters been the 'correct' pickups for a 24 fret neck....hi-gains are!

Also, it really irritates me when they say "Item is listed elsewhere, so could be withdrawn at any time". What's the point in bidding on an item that is likely to be withdrawn at any minute?

BTW, welcome to the forum Monty & congrats on your new 12.

Anthony, Anthony ... always a nit-picker. My 360-12 sounds sweet with toasters, I'll be posting a tune with it in the next month or so, I'm sure you'll take issue, though ! And I recorded it direct (no amp) - wrong again !

No, it's OK Steve...I wont be taking issue. I'm sure that it'll sound great. I wasn't actually meaning that you shouldn't have toasters on your 24 fret (not on this post anyway), I was just pointing out that they are not 'correct' pickups for a 24 fret gtr. Toasters on 24 fret necks I can just about accept....but recording direct!!!!

I have a Yamaha pre amp that I use on non Carnivore gigs & it sounds pretty good, so I know you can get some good sounds out of these boxes. I suppose I have a bit of a 'anti direct' reputation, but in fairness, if you are demoing new songs, or recording for your own pleasure, then great....but don't expect to turn heads if you are trying to produce master quality & trying your luck with the industry, because they really do stick out like a sore thumb.

Gotcha', Tony - you are a good sport, despite your unflagging commitment to your own opinions!

I don't really like direct recording either, but for the 12-string, it seems to work best for me. Realize, that I am an amateur, and never intend to market myself as a guitar player, in fact, my main instrument is the drums. However, despite my amateur recording operation, the whole of the song is what matters most, and when I listen to the end result, I think it's better than most of the garbage out there. If you didn't believe that, why go through all the trouble ?

In the future, let's continue this discussion on the "Rampant" topic session, I don't want to steal Sean's thunder (although I would steal his 360-12 FG, except I have one already!).

Doesnt Roger McGuinn record direct? He boasts about recording direct on his DVD.

I would never do it because i love the roar of a real tube amp but im just sayin

The 360/12 arrived today.

Wow.

Now to get my hands in 12-string shape, this sucker's a bit tougher in the barre chords than a six string, but oh man, the sound. I plugged it in, and BAM, instant jangle.

I think I'm in love.

I've recorded my 660/12 direct myself and heard it recorded with a mic'd amp both for 1-arpeggios with compression, and 2-slide country guitar.

It has come through with flying colors each time.

I think we're just talking about different shades of great-sounding here.
