I don't know who screwed up, but it's the same song, and they sing it as "Led in the Game". Rest of the lyrics are straight up from Holly's song. There was a tribute album two years ago to Buddy-called "Not Fade Away". Waylon Jennings did "Learnin the Game" on it. Nanci Griffith did "Well, Allright", and the Hollies did "Peggy Sue Got Married"-with Buddy Holly. Like the Beatles w/ Lennon-only much better.

I think Holly was a major influence ("Listen to Me"), along w/ Phil and Don. The only reason I can think of for changing the title might have been a problem over rights to the music (Norman Petty)

I think the problem started way back at the Star-Club, in Hamburg in 62/63. The German record label staff, responsible for putting together the live album, probably just simply transcribed the title wrongly.

Tim,

It's not just the title. If you listen to the song, they're singing "Led in the Game".

Learning The Game - Led In The Game

The circumstances under which the Starclub songs were recorded were poor. The record company simply didn't know the title, seemed to hear "Led" and credited it to "unknown"

Who's version was more popular? The Searchers or the Hullaballoos?

Buddy Holly's. The correct title is "Learnin' the Game".Congrats! I'd forgotten the Hullabaloos, although I remembered the show- and Lada Edmonds, Jr.
