Horseshoe pickup

Post by fireglo »

I was watching my Wingspan DVD last night, and Paul's 4001 doesn't have the cover over the horseshoe pickup. I thought this was the magnet. How could you remove the magnet and the pickup still work. Or, has he replaced the horseshoe whith a high gain?

Timothy,
Check this out. (Courtesy of Mr. Bjorn Eriksson's Rickbeat site.)
The part regarding Sir Paul's 4001S, especially the last paragraphs, might help answer your 2nd question.

I think Paul did like some of us other 60's Ric owners ... he swapped out the horseshoe pickup for a high gain ...

Hm... How about one making a treble p.u. of their own to replace the high-gain on Sir Paul's 4001? Now that would be a privilege!
A Rickenbacker bass is much like the Jaguar E car - perennially ultra-fashionable.
