Thoughts of George.........
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it George Harrison's birthday today?
Yes it is Jeffrey. He was a great influence on all guitar players in general and his Rickenbacker 12 string playing in particular. It is still hard to believe that he has passed on.

I have always felt that it was a special honor to share a birthday (albeit different years of birth) with George. I am eagerly awaiting the release of that DVD, mentioned elsewhere in this forum, showing George, Paul, and Ringo together.

Currently I'm learning a few lead solos to spark off my own creative process. Last night I did the Beatles 'Nowhere Man' - with George Harrison's 17 seconds of Rickenbacker magic. I looped the mp3 and played it over and over till about midnight. It's easier to play than it sounds, but it makes you realise the superb musical creativity of the man. When I was a kid his stuff was always 'background' but he set the bar mighty high, it's a beautiful little confection. The harmonic 'ping' at the end 's like a cherry on top.
here's the tab: Nowhere Man
Solo: 17 seconds of perfection.

Lee, I share your passion for George's solo art. He always composed a song-within-a-song. For Nowhere Man, he recorded the solo playing in unison with John each of them playing their new Daphne Blue Fender Stratocasters. You can hear those strats quacking at full tilt...but not quite enough to get a Ric sound.
I was driving to work on the 25th and the Toronto DJ was saying that while in his 40's, George Harrison was sent a document from a Liverpool Registry employee stating he was actually born at 11:42 pm on FEBRUARY the 24th. George publicised this document (I've never seen anything) but continued to consider the 25th as the day of celebration.

Being in my mid 20's, I grew up listening to the "Beatles' echo artists" and not the pioneers themselves. However, after getting the remastered "All Things Must Pass" CD, I really have begun to appreciate and be inspired by George's graceful, smooth style of songwriting and guitar work.
When I placed my order last year for a 360/12 FG, the order went through on George's birthday.

Al: It is a terrific way to conceptualize a riff. Each line represents a string so from top to bottom E B G D A E and the numbers refer to the fret being played with 0 representing an open string. Thats it!
