Searchers' Fans And The Internet

Post by admin »

With the advent of the Internet and the creation of Websites worldwide it seems to me that there is more information available with regard to The Searchers than ever. I often wonder whether The Searchers popularity has been ever present or whether there has been a resurgence due to the Internet. It is now possible to know where and with whom they will play, for example, by visiting the Official Site when this information was restricted to posters or newspapers in the past.

I think The Searchers have been more studious and committed to their career in recent years than most other acts of their era, and I think that the approach of the act has an effect on the type of person who follows them.

Another act with a similarly professional approach are The Hollies, and their presence on the net too is very comprehensive.

I think it's a two-way thing. The act is business-like, and so are the fans! We were surprised at the number of people especially from the States who emailed in the early days of the official site to say how amazed and pleased they were that The Searchers were still going.

I have to say also that Frank's continued contribution to the site, and Wendy Burton's 1st class PR work help a lot too!

Please add the impact of Peter's Rickenbacker pages. Me, for one, was reunited with the Searchers through this Forum!

Searchers amongst my teenage favourite music. Still fond of them, but earnestly a little puzzled they are considered THIS big! But I'm very excited about this forum, and will love to read it regularly, and also contribute!

I think both Gary and Peter are too modest to say it for themselves but without their important imput none of us "diehards" would have derived as much enjoyment from the internet as I certainly have.

One also acknowledges the very imprtant contribution made by Tim Viney who pioneered the Appreciation Society and made me realise that what my wife and kids had been telling me for years, throughout the seventies and eighties, was not true, that when I told someone I was a Big Searchers fan, they always interjected with "Only Fan" I am forever indebted to Peter and Tim for affording me the opportunity to express my views through their different outlets.

Happy St. Patrick's Day to all Searchers' fans today. As I have read over this topic, and many others, I am reminded of all the wonderful friends I have met online through The Searchers' Forum and through Gary's My-Gen list. Thanks to all who have contributed to the growing body of knowledge with regard to The Searchers.

Roy: Thanks for your nice comments. It is amazing to see the number of great sites devoted to the Searchers.

This information "explosion" has to be good news for the group and avids everywhere. I often think of sites like the Searchers' Forum as the modern day "Iron Door Club", a place where those interested in the Searchers and other groups can come together to share their views. I for one, am so very grateful for your contribution. As time marches on, we will be doing this in a video conferencing mode.
