Weird 4003 neck

Post by jwr2 »

I am setting up a 4003 bass ... and it has a neck that is strange ... the neck is flat between frets 3 and 14 ... but the neck curls up a little at the nut and it curls down a little at the body ... it is unusual ... so when I tighten the truss rods I can get the center section to flatten out or even backbow ... but the 2 ends of the neck seem to want to curl ...

During the mid 90s, I think Rick's fingerboard planer was
all kapa'kahi. A bunch of instruments from then have a cute
little S curve and need to be re-fretted.

this was a 2004 4003 bass ... I converted it 4-2-5 ... I was a little concerned that it might be a problem bass ... but it made a very good 5 string bass ...

between frets 3 and 14 the neck is very flat ... but the highest frets seem to be planed down ... and the first 2 planed up ... I just cut the nut a little deeper ... the neck is so strong that even with 5 strings on it the truss rods are finger tight ...
