Ordered my Comstock today!
I dropped by Willcutt Guitars this afternoon to pick up my Tacoma C1C Chief, which had a cracked top repaired.
I asked the shop owner to phone Ric regarding the waiting period on 700C Comstock (and the $$$).
12 to 14 months was the response, since they build to order. Not bad considering.
So I took the plunge.
I dropped a bit of money to secure the order.
I now await the arrival of a 700C Comstock (maple back and sides) with the top of the line Baggs electronics. Color choice: Fireglo (Montezuma Brown was not an option, sadly).
I played one last year when I was in Minnesota for a recording session (Dave's Guitars in LaCrosse, Wis. was the shop) and the Ric blew away every Gibson, Martin, and Guild in the place.
Conversely the Shasta didn't sound nearly as nice, though it may have had dead strings...
I'm excited.

I typically migrate to rosewood guitars myself, Corey. Rosewood back and sides with spruce tops typify the acoustic sound for me, however the maple Ric Comstock had a voice and tone which was beautiful, expressive, and the guitar was a pleasure to interact with. The Shasta was lovely but sounded wispy in comparison. Likewise with the Ric rosewood dreadnaught model (I played one at the Ohio guitar show at Pick of the Rick's booth). They sound airy and produce a wonderful strummed sound but lack the presence I want in an acoustic. I haven't played an acoustic Ric 12 string, though I would love to.
As for the Jazzbo -who wouldn't want one of those beauties?!
You can see Marty Willson-Piper play one in the video clip for the Church's 'Under the Milky Way'. 'course that one's a rare 30's (40's?) model. My wife has actually tried to talk me into getting one! 'You know it will sound good...'
Ahem, Noel

Three and a half months for a custom shop guitar is amazing. I know poeple who have waited over three years for custom stuff. The acoustic department at Ric is suffering big time, they just don't have enough qualified people in house to make it happen. I know JH is doing everything he can to find the "right" people for the job and bring the line back up to speed.
