CS's Pick Guard is re-shaped?

The Yes Greatest Video Hits: Song: Tempus Fugit shows some good close up's of Chris's Bass. It's from about 1980 (+/-) and the Pickguard and screw closest to the neck pickup have been moved. Anyone know why this was done? (cracks in the cream colour paint too!)

Yeah, that mod is ancient. The little "flair" at the top of the guard was rounded over and the screw moved closer to the top of the pickup. Probably Chris or a tech monkeying around inside. Easy to break too, since I've done it in almost the exact same spot! Just forget to take that screw out and go to pop the guard off and you'll do the same mod!

Another common bit of damage on 4001s is a crack on either side of the neck pickup caused by someone trying to raise it past the stops. This is presumably an effort to get more low end out of the bass. That damn bass cut cap! Had I only known back then. Then there are the many ways to reinstall the treble cover. The treble pickup itself is often put in backwards after the cover is removed / reinstalled.
