650 Dakota MP3 clip
Several individuals in this forum have asked about the sound of the 650 Dakota so I recorded a sample. The guitar was plugged directly into a Marshall JCM 2000 tube amp, with no effects. The file size is 3 MB.

Noel:
The 650D has walnut wings. I think that the tone is pretty much a product of the big maple neck (which, of course runs all the way through the body) and the humbuckers. The walnut wings have minimal impact on the tone, as far as I can tell. You can really feel the neck vibrating when you play this guitar--moreso than other solid bodies where the tone is transferred to the body wood (Les Paul) or lost at the bolt on neck joint (Strat). I use Thomastik Infeld Power Brights, .009--.046. More pics and sound clips:

I am a bass player firstly, but here is a song I did with a 650 Dakota. Pink Floydy sort of sound....

Jeff:
Thank you for adding that clip. The 650Dakota sounds great!! I didn't realize a RIC could get such tone and sounds. I'm still fairly new learning guitar,However I'm old enough (38) to know that it's easier to learn on a good quality american instrument.
I'll have to wait awhile before I purchase a 650 Dakota as I added a Taylor 314 to my collection today. So many great guitars and not enough money!
