My UK Tour

Greetings,

I'll be touring in the UK with my band Eugene (www.eugeneband.com) from May 23rd through June 6th. We're still filling out our schedule. If any forum members over there are in need of a good US band to share a bill or have ANY leads on gigs for me please let me know.

Also, if there's someone who can rent me a good cab for the tour I'd rather give my money to you than a store. I'm travelling with my 4001 V63 and a Walter Woods Ultra High Power amp. We're always looking for places to stay too.

Drop me a line if you can help please. Would also love to meet any of you at our gigs. Give me a shout!

Right now we've booked shows in London, Stratford - Upon - Avon, and Coventry.

So you've played the Golden Cross? Cool. I know nothing about it. The band went to the UK last year before I joined them so this will be my first trip.

Jerry,

You get the prize for recognizing the origin of our band's name! Not too many folks pick that out.

I know it is a bit of a risk to be traveling with it, but of all the basses I own it is the one that is most "replaceable" if something was to happen to it. Most of the other are so rare I'd be lucky to ever find another one.

I certainly don't consider my v63 a beater, but it is replaceable. Might have to be patient, but it could be done. I suppose I could have picked up something really inexpensive to travel with, but since I'm going out and playing for new crowds, even if it is in little pubs, I wanted something that would sound right for the band and that I enjoy playing.

Thought about using my Reverend XL, but that bass doesn't quite do it in this band. The others that "work" are ones I would not travel on a plane with. My Modulus four string TBX (neck through) is one of 11 made (not to be produced again). My '69 Guild M-85 is one of 200 made and are now going for ridiculous amounts of money IF you can find one. My P-bass is a '61. Considering what old Fenders are going for that was not an option either.

The other bass that is a good fit for Eugene is my '69 Hofner 5000/1. The 5000/1 is the one with the blonde, flamed maple, ebony board, intricate inlay and binding, and the bass boost circuit. This one came from the original owner who played it for five months and then put it under his bed - literally - until I bought it. I gig with it constantly, but it is in superb shape and I would be hard to find one that plays as well.

I don't know - maybe I'm crazy for travelling with the v63, but it seems to make sense to me.

They did, which is too bad as they are nice instruments. They just finished selling off a final batch of five strings they made from leftover parts. Just sold my Brad Houser five tonight to help finance this little jaunt to the UK.
