Just listened to 'Beatles For Sale' and...

I surprised how much I love that record. First time I listened to it in over a year. Yes, I remembered all (most) of the words.

That and 'Help!' were the first ones I really got into. My dad had a tape with Help! on one side and this album on the other. I'd play it in my grandma's truck when she'd take me places.. we must've had it in there for months before it was replaced by 'Please Please Me'/'With The Bealtes'.

Just wondering though. I can't understand what the hell John and Paul are saying at times. Anyone have the lyrics for this?

Also, I'm surprised with how well their voices meld together. For the longest time I thought it was just John singing 'Eight Days a Week' and not the pair. Very impressive.

Love almost every song, except 'Mr. Moonlight' pisses me off now. Horrible solo.

I would have loved to see them play Mr. Moonlight in Hamburg when John sang "here I am on my nose..." instead of knees. Even before I'd heard that I wondered if they were doing this number seriously or it was the predecessor to You Know My Name Look Up the Number. Either way, perhaps it's the reason why most believe for sale is their weakest LP is for that song. And even if they picked a clunker once in a blue moon, it's their eclectic taste that made them who they was.

I agree Glenn. Not only would I have liked to have seen them do it in the Hamburg style, I think it was a pretty darn rocking cover version. I don't know WHAT happened on BFS.

I think Beatles For Sale is one of my favorite albums ever. I love the covers, especially Kansas City and Everybody's Trying To Be My Baby, and the originals are great as well. I've always loved No Reply, I'm A Loser, and I'll Follow The Sun, etc.

I do agree that Mr. Moonlight isn't one of their best, and if there's one Beatle song I skip, aside from Revolution No. 9, it's this one. I just don't like the scream at the beginning.

I never liked "Mr. Moonlight," either. But I love "What You're Doing" and "Every Little Thing." Lennon & McCartney are still the undisputed masters of the short pop song format.

I believe "Every Little Thing" is the ONLY song that featured the 325/12, if I'm not mistaken (Not counting that Dutch TV show appearance) Christian. YES also covered this song.

"I'll follow the sun" is an underrated masterpiece. Why it wasn't a 45/Single is beyond me. Christian

Glad to hear others say this is one of their favorites. I often felt alone about this piece of work. It just has this feel to it, good pop music, great record!

'Cmon, the thing that made the Beatles the Beatles was you never knew what was coming with the next track. To this day, you never expect Mr. Moonlight but then BAM, there it is. That solo...straight out of the roller rink. If they had just clipped John's vocal intro (relegated it to the Anthology years later) it would be all the more better. It is John's intro equivalent to the intro to Ebony and Ivory (what was Paul thinking? At least John was a wee lad when he did the former.) I bet George Martin was overruled or sick those days for both mixes. WIth intros like those, it's like the songs have to recover after collapsing out of the gate.

This is one of my favorite Beatle albums. Personally, I don't mind "Mr Moonlight" at all. I really like the opening and the way John screams it. This may shock others, but the only song on that album that I can't stand is "No Reply"...I was just never a fan of it. Nothing gets better for me on that album than "I'm A Loser" and "I Don't Want To Spoil The Party"...The songs, to me are one and the same.
It was because of the twang in the middle of the "Party" solo that made me get a Gretsch.

Wow, well that's different. I'd guess NR would be one of the most popular tracks on it. I'd like to hear the original Moonlight. I bet it was a B side of an obscure A side. The intro seems like something set up for the live version at an R&B show. Though I like tracks on it I rate it and Let It Be last. Kinda hard for this one though, sandwiched between Help and Rubber Soul.

I love Mr. Moonlight. It is typical Lennon, in a straight line from "Anna" to "You really got a hold on me" and "This Boy". This is Lennon's sense of humour, you never know if he takes it seriously in the end...
And I am very happy that this embarrassing "Leave my kitten alone"-Mickey Mouse-Rock'n'Roller never appeared on this LP.
