Ticket to ride

Post by craviola990 »

Hi Guys- Anybody know why George never used the Ricky on this live? I notice on Sullivan and Shea stadium he doesn't. Was this so he could more easily play Paul's guitar breaks in the song? I thought this would be the best place to go for such info. Thanks! Christian

Yes, that's the reason.

Contrary to popular belief, i still say the TTR intro sounds like a Gretsch double tracked, as opposed to a 12 string, as I don't hear any octaves, and the tone (other than the shimmering sound) is VERY Gretsch-like.

"...and I think the last Beatle song was, that I recall playing on was, the Rickenbacker twelve string, was "Ticket To Ride"."

"...it really didn´t seem to do anything other than this bright sound, but that is the sound that you hear on Ticket To Ride and all those others we mentioned."

OK... so according to that website "Chicken To Ride" was recorded in the early 1990s using a Les Paul!

It's on the internet so it must be true!
Listen to that sustain!

I sure don't hear any octaves.
Also, supposedly it was John on 12'r. So what's George taking about?

My ignorance of how the riff is played will show: if the riff uses the first and/or second strings, one would not hear an octave for those notes.

I thought it started on the G string, using an open A chord.

Right jerry. It starts on the G string (open A chord)and one would THINK you'd hear an octave if it was a Rick 12. My point exactly.

George must have forgotten that he used the Rick late in 1965 on a certain song HE wrote. "If I Needed Someone"?

I think Harrison was referring to the last time he used the '63 Rick 12 on a record, not the '65 model he got only a few months after TTR was recorded.

I played Ticket to Ride as soon as I got my new 330/12 BBR and it is the exact sound through my AC30, obviously accounting for the different pickups on my guitar compared to George's and their possible use of a AC50 or AC100. Its very obvious to me that he used a RIC 12 on that song, and Paulie played the lead bits with his Casino.

Stan, I had no idea there was another Rick 12!
