String gauge for 650D

Is part # 95106 the correct factory issue string set for the 650? Those are the round wound nickel medium short scale (gauges 12 16 24W 32 42 54)

I wouldn't have thought so, given that it's not a short scale guitar. The factory fitted strings are probably Rickenbacker CRW 10-42.

Although, I would suggest just try different gauges (and manufacturers) and find the ones that are best for you. Sure, the truss rod and the nut may need a tweak and a file, and you may need to adjust the intonation and bridge height, but you'll have what's right for you.

The manual says CRW 10-42's, part no 95403. That's what I use on my 650C & they're great.

Tony, do you use Ric strings (10-42's) on your 350 as well? I haven't changed mine out yet, but they will be due pretty quick (strings for me last one to two weeks at most). Just wondering if you've tried any other types and what your opinion was.

I use Ric CRW 10-42's on all of my gtrs Dean. I used to use others, but I really do feel that they help to get THAT sound. On the thinlines, including a 350, I would use none other.

The 650 is a different beast though & I well might try a conventional set of strings at some point.

Thanks Tony. I suspected so. I had tried a set of DRs on my 660/12 and went back to the Rics right away. I use Dean Markley or DR 9/46's on my other 6 strings (all solid bodies) and was going to try them on the 350. But it sounds so damn nice with the factory gauge. I think I'll stick to them. They can bend just as far as the 009s.

You might like to try a set of Rotosound 10-46s on a 6, Dean - yellow box. I've found them to be excellent on Ricks (and Fenders, Gibsons, etc....). I was a little disappointed with the DRs.

Rick strings are quite expensive here... bloody good, though!

They're expensive here too Howard. I can buy name brand strings for nearly half the price, but nothing sounds like a Ric CRW!

If I can find Rotowounds here, I'll give 'em a try, Howard. If not in Montreal, maybe we'll just have to try a shop or two in Toronto during your visit.

I do like the Ric string sound, though. Just like to have options when I run out of Rics and new ones are a mail order wait away.
