Gretsch question

Post by shamustwin »

I'm seeing a few Tennesee Rose's for sale, new, for a a very low price. Now rumor has it that maybe they'll be able to put Chet Atkins' name back on these (as previously labeled) soon. Could this a reason for the lower prices?
Would the Chet Atkins model (same guitar, I'm assuming) inherently be worth more from the get go? I know I'd rather have Chet's name back on them.

Gretsch has also significantly lowered the price of the Country Classics - $1500 or so now at Sam Ash.

The only Country Classic being heavily discounted (of the three offered) is the 6122/62. This, of course, is the double cutaway formerly known as the "Country Gent".

The deal has been inked to put Chet's name back onto the appropriate Gretsch model.

Hmmm...twice I've seen the Ten. Rose 62HT being offered at around 13 something, and I thought they were in the 1700 range.

I just picked up a 6122-62 from American Musical Supply. My ES-335 will be temporarily retired.

My own opinion, but I think the same guitar with "Chet Atkins blah blah bla..." might be a tad more appealing. S'pose the same guitar with his name on it would sell for more?

I'm thinking of getting a Tennessee Rose HT, but might wait if the Chet Atkins name will be used soon.

OK, Jerry, "You're shallow!"[well, you Said...]
But seriously,if you already have an
otherwise "historically correct/detailed Gretsch", and the Only part of the picture that is missing is a pickguard that says Chet on it, well, I'm betting Someone will be offering the guards as parts replacements.

I can live without Chet's name on my scratch plate - this is awesome news!

I thought it was because they had those "SP" models to take their place. I grabbed a Tennessee Rose G6119-1962HT for $1387 thru Musicians Friend the other day as well as a Duo Jet G6128T-1957 for $1487. That's why I thought the "SP's" were replacing those cuz I didn't think Chet had anything to do with the Duo Jet.

Don, how do you like the Tennessee Rose? That has the Hi-lo trons as opposed to the Filter trons, I believe. Sound and playability?

As I've stated before, I used to play a '60's Chet Tennessean, and loved it. Many moons ago.

Jerry,
I don't have a Tennessee Rose[the current"correct" Harrison model, but I've had my hands on a few in the stores. One word; Excellent.
In every way.Better than Any old one I've ever owned in the past or seen.Yeah, some guys are still gonna go,"Hey, there's no nitro finish on it...". Go away, you're getting on my nerves, dude. The HiLos are different than Filtertrons; IMO, both are good and have their place.I have
the 6122-59 like Paul W. Incredible axe. I also recently scored a 6136 White Falcon, the most recent update edition;halfmoon inlays and trestle bracing.Good God Gretsch is just jammin' these days.I also have a friends' 6122-12 string here on loan I'm messing with. Real cool guitar.

I didn't get the Tennessee Rose yet- that'll be here tomorrow. (Along with a 360/12c63 they had too). I got the Duo Jet. I like it. I like it a lot.

Don, I have the 6128TBEE Duo Jet and I have
a 350V63 Rickenbacker. I play thru a reissue
Vox AC-30TBX. I am very happy with my setup
now I have the best of both a Rick and a Gretsch.
Lou D
No other guitar sound as good as a Rickenbacker thru a Vox AC-30TBX
