I'm Telling You Now

Sad to hear that Freddie Garrity has passed away. He was, of course, the lead singer for Freddie and the Dreamers. If I close my eyes, I can still see him "Do The Freddie."

Sad to hear that Peter I did not know till you informed us, he was much maligned in some quarters as you know, but he made some great pop songs in the sixties and for me the B Side of his first ever release, which was If You Gotta Make A Fool of Somebody, called feel So Blue was British Beat at it's best I'll post it when I get a minute, thanks for the info.

Thanks Roy, yet again your efforts are much appreciated.

A great song which reminds me of The Every Brothers, despite not harmony and Cliff Richard and The Shadows. Nice rhythm guitar and a classic lead solo for the period. There is a single line in the song that resembles Gloudman's "For Your Love." Do you know who composed Feel So Blue?

This song does not have the same playfulness or perhaps "nerdy" quality that made him famous.

He was a major part of the British Invasion for me over here in the US. Always enjoyed his catchy pop tunes that were humorous for the time. Also noted that his biggest hits were recorded in 1963 but were not delivered here until after the Beatles. I think there are two gone now -- Freddy and the lead guitar player, I believe.

You are correct Mike about 2 of them gone now, though it was Bernie Dwyer the drummer that passEd away a while back, Roy Crewdson runs a bar in Tenerife (Canary Islands)though I tried to find it last year but never did somebody gave me directions but said it was near a chinese retaurant called the show boat or something like that, nearly every Chinese I found seemed to be called that though.

Derek Quinn was lead guitar and went back to a normal day job, Peter Birell became a cab driver according to some reports.

It is always intriguing to see how big name acts of the sixties returned to average jobs after they got off the bandwagon.

Yes, Peter. Like John Entwistle said "I was amazed how long it took to make a lot of money in this business" and he was in a BIG band!

Roy: It would seem that Freddie himself composed FeelSo Blue. It is also of interest that he cowrote Do The Freddie and You Were Made for Me with Mitch Murray.

Mike: Thanks for the link. I guess you need to read the fine print carefully when signing a recording contract.

Hi All
This is indeed very sad,he was Mr Nice Guy!

About 15 years ago we were special guest of Colin Manley of The Swinging Blue Jeans some years ago now at a gig they were doing as part of the S.S Show in Preston.

We were back stage and my wife and I met Freddie, he was a lovely bloke and very funny. He was backed by The Rapiers and they were a great bunch of guys too and were all very kind to my wife who was a big fan.

I will always remember him for singing Short Shorts a song I was jokingly singing only the other day around the house.

He will be sadly missed,Mr.Nice Guy.

I see he was considerably older than many of his peers in what we call on this side of the pond the British Invasion.

I always liked them especially I'm telling you now. It was one of the high points of the early British Invasion for me

I would not have classed him as considerably older Glenn, he was 65 McCartney is 64 in a month John McNally of The Searchers is 64 in August and most of other members of Brit groups of that era are in mid sixties now.
