Meet The Beatles

Post by shamustwin »

Anyone ever meet a Beatle? I did. Early '80's, my then wife and myself strolling though the Beverly Center, huge upscale mall in L.A. I just happen to glance up at the floor above and - it was HE. I grabbed my wife's arm and said "That's f***ing GEORGE HARRISON!" Well, we ran up to the next floor, and just when I'd thought he'd gone for good, I spy him, in a dept. store men's department, shopping for underwear. "Oh, you've caught me in me undies", says he in the most perfect beatle-y intonation. He looked very rich. We had a quick chat, he was most kind and patient. My then wife was a blonde german with thick accent, and though he talked with me, his eyes focused mostly on her (memories of Astrid?). I got his autograph (still have it), and left, having to stop and have a glass of wine to steady my nerves afterwards. Other than that, I've just seen them from afar, i.e. in 1966 in concert at Dodger Stadium (I believe they did two more in Frisco, then stopped), Wings in '76, and Paulie last year in concert (3 times). My good friend's (and bassist/collaborator)wife's father, in a band called The Firehouse 5 plus 2 (I think) saw them in Hamburg, said they cranked.

I briefly met Pete Best last summer while he was on tour in the US. I met him thanks to THIS FORUM and its members!!! He signed a pickguard and book for me. He was very nice to everyone and would have talked longer had I wanted to (I didn't want to hold up the line!). His show was great!
