Exceptional restoration is in the details

How do I get this darn stick on pickup off?

Paul,

I got one of those John Pearse stick on acoustic pickups on my Martin acoustic and now I want it off. What is the best way to remove it without leaving a mark? It's on the top of the soundboard btw, not inside. The adhesive is made by 3M if I remember right. I emailed JP and they said they didn't know how to remove it.

I would try a citrus oil-based gum or label remover. 3M# 6041. Comes in an aerosol can and is available at most office supply superstores like Office Max and Staples.

This will not injure varnish and nitro finishes. Leave it on overnight and don't try to peel the pickup off, but twist it parallel to the soundboard to unstick it.

Wipe with a dry cloth once you've removed any left-over adhesive.
