The Forum CD Project is ON!

Post by doctorwho »

This is a reiteration of the other thread. Here are the particulars:

Requirements:

1. A maximum of two songs (to offer a choice), are to be submitted on CD format, with .wav files (data file) preferred.

2. Songs must be original compositions for this first album; steer clear of cover songs.

3. The songs should be played primarily by Rickenbacker instruments; for a song with "just bass" as a Rickenbacker, a song should be chosen that features the bass, as in a bass solo, or a prominent bass line.

4. The songs should contain no vulgar language, or potentially offensive content within the lyrics.

5. Songs should be of a fairly decent standard of recording, (not too much hiss - no calling up the stairs that dinner's ready, etc.!) but not necessarily professionaly produced - recorded in the bedroom (or garage, basement ...!) is fine.

6. "Liner Notes" should be attached explaining instruments (and amps/mics) used & basic recording setup, as well as names of performers.

Submission:

Submit songs on CD to either Tony (who is located in the UK) or Gary (who is located in the USA) by standard post. Please send an e-mail to the mailbox in our profiles and we will reply with the shipping address.

Submissions should be received no later than August 5th, 2006, to be considered. Anything received after this time may be considered for a second volume, if there is one, or returned to sender, if that is agreed on.

Post-Submission:

After submission, Tony will do the following processing of the recording: semi-master the CD, trying to balance levels; apply EQ/enhancement/width etc.; and produce a quantity of CDR's. Tony will also produce artwork, which Peter will approve (we will also check with John Hall) & print it to a decent standard via computer.

Selling Price:

Tony has stated that the CDs will sell for what they cost him, basicaly, the item cost plus some ink & paper costs.

One other thing to note: my e-mail access will be limited from around July 12th to the 20th, so during that time please e-mail Tony and he will send you my mailing address.

Question - how do we send Tony money ? Is it expensive to send letters to the UK from the US ? Also, can he cash a check from a US bank ? I should know these things, but I do not.

I'll find out Steve, but Paypal, love it or hate it, is probably the best & easiest.

I'll keep everyone informed on progress. I'm really looking forward to this. We all have our own ideas of that definitive Rickenbacker sound & it will be really great to pull some of these sounds together.

The payment thing is a bit down the road right now, and Tony and I will figure out something over the week or so.

I suggest, Gary, if you are the go-between for the musical content, perhaps you can handle the money part as well ? I'd be happy to send a check along with the data, in advance.

Steve, it might turn out that I'll be a go-between for that, too, but because the final price has yet to be determined, it's still up in the air.

In the Requirements, you mention a maximum of 2 songs submitted, to allow choice. Can I send my band's manufactured CD and suggest two tracks, with liner note type information, or would you prefer that I burn a new CD copy with just the 2 songs on it?

Let me know; I'm looking forward to this! Gary, I'll drop a CD in the mail to you tomorrow, or as soon as I see an answer to my question here....

Did you receive an email from me, Tony? Not about the Forum CD, BTW.
