Hi! The toaster in my newly-arrived 4001v63 has static layered on top of the notes, but ONLY on the E string. It only happens above a moderate volume threshold and it stops if I bend the note up. Any advice?

Hi John, Welcome, this is a great forum, I didn't even see your post, there have been 7 or 8 new ones in the last few days.
How is the output compared to the horseshoe? I had two and never had that problem, The two I had sounded very different from each other though, I had a 2000, and a 2002. The 2000 had a much louder (in relation the horseshoe) toaster in it than did the 2002. If the output is really weak in comparison, maybe the coil is open, but then again that would affect the whole thing I would think. If you have an ohmeter check the impedance, if it is open it would be very high or infinite. Check for mechanical problems with the string, check the nut to see if the string is loose in the slot, or cut too low. it could even be the string itself, maybe the windings on the string are loose. I had a 4001 with a soft (volume) E string but never a noisy one unless the string itself was defective.
Moderate volume level? You mean with your amp? Or do you mean playing harder? Is the sound there acoustically? Without the amp on I mean? How is/are your amps speaker(s)? Anyone else?
