Toronto mini-confluence

Post by ozover50 »

Steve said:
Howard - if Toronto is still on your list of stops you can see it in person!

Howard said:
You bet it is, Steve!!
Dean Steliga and I will be staying at the Novotel Toronto Centre on September 11, 12 and 13. Hopefully on one of those nights a heap of guys from TDOT and environs can get together and maybe have a meal, few drinks, jam or all of the above.

We're pretty much wingin' it at this stage but I really would like to get to Healey's pub one night. I believe that Tuesday night is jam night. Don't know whether I'd be game to play but I reckon it would be a hoot!

Dean said:
Steve, evening of Sept 11 through the 13th are Howard's TO dates. We're still looking for a get together those dates. Love to get as many together as we can. Specially if we can get to see those Sea Green beauties!

Shoot me an email for details. Ahh Howard beat me to it!!

Howard - TDOT??? Damn you're hip!
Do we know if there are other forumites in the area that would be interested in a mini-confluence?

Howard said:
Might be time for a hands up, Dean and Steve. What do you think? Bill Hughey expressed an interest, although he may find it a little tough with school commitments. I think one of those nights is his birthday, too!

Bill said:
Yep, I'm in for Toronto but as Howard says, it kind of depends on how school is going. My birthday is Sept. 12 - does that fit the bill? Should we move this discussion back over into the Confluences section?

Sure does, Bill. What say others in the area?

As long as I'm not gainfully employed around those days, I should make it....R

So far,

Howard: Yes
Dean: Yes
Steve: Yes
Bill: Tentatively Yes - and a birthday to boot!
Richard:Tentatively Yes

Anyone else? Canucks time to shine folks!
Places to hold it?

I'm driving up from Montreal on the 11th, picking Howard up at Pearson that evening (6ish) and settling in downtown at the hotel. From there it is party time. I'm, bringing a Vox DA5, a 350V63, a 660/12 and some other non-Ric things.

And definitely a camera.

I talked to my friend Craig Collett who own Coll Audio, a concert backline rental company located in Toronto, and he's happy to host a Toronto Confluence/Jam at his warehouse in Scarborough (St. Clair Ave. E.). It's not downtown but should be easily accessible by transit or cab. The 11th or 12th would work best for him (in the evening). He has a large variety of guitar and bass amps available for us to use, and most importantly, a beer fridge. Cost should be minimal ($10-20 per person depending on how many folks show up). He actually hosted a similar meeting a few years ago for Mellotron enthusiasts (!). What do you guys think - seem like a good idea?

Steve; I know Craig also, did not know he moved from Markham, but his place would be cool, and no gear to move, plus he owes me for past inheritances that he has benifitted from and I know he'll have to be reminded, but then again I have also benifitted, I just remembered....R

It's been a few years and a couple of locations since Craig was in Markham. It would definitely be a great location for a get-together!

Er... is that like a street lined with strip joints, bars and spruikers?

If it is, the answer is yes.... Kings Cross in Sydney is such a place. Image

No, nothing so flashy. Strip malls are little complexes that house a small number of shops-usually a sub shop, a dry cleaner, a Tim Horton's, etc. Scarborough is a strip mall wasteland.

Now my turn - what the hell is a spruiker???

Gotcha!

A spruiker is somebody who stands outside an establishment trying to get people to come inside and spend their hard-earned.

Think of me as my b'day is the 13th.
