A seafoam 4003 - love it or hate it?

Post by brycycle »

just got my hands on a 'seafoam' 4003. i think it is a great color, a definite break from the regular line-up...

are these sought after/appreciated or the ugly ducklings of the mid 90's?

i think the garish/bold color suits the garish/bold design...

At first, I didn't like it. When I started liking it, it was already too late to get one. I think my wife is disappointed that I didn't get a sea foam green. She loves that color. I'm pretty sure they are sought after.

I didn't like turquoise either, until I saw a turquoise 4003 in person, instantly changed my mind.

Paul, I tried something like that in person on Erik Kutzler (Blueflamerick) about his 4003/8...it didn't work!

Welcome Bryce - I hate you! Well, not really.... A 4003 SG is quite a find! Let's hear the story of how you found it. Of course if you every want to get rid of this doubly "garish" bass, let me know! Image Pics would be good too.

Welcome Bryce.

Seagreen already is, and will continue be one of THE collectible vintage finishes for a Rickenbacker.

You either love or hate the pastels, and this is the best of them. (Until the factory makes me a custom Coral Pink bass)..Image

well - i suppose i was using the term garish as opposed to unconventional...

i'll post some photos and the story when i get it back from the shop where it is being pampered/set-up.

thanks for the enthusiastic welcome!

Bryce, are you familiar with the Jedi Mind-Trick? No? Cool.
This isn't the bass you're looking for.
Send it to me.

nice try steve - that only works in person.

the only was i'd consider parting with it, is if the offer blinded my affection by seriously cutting into my student debt.

but - it would be a long shot...as with most of you i'm sure, my basses have intrinsic value for me...

Post a picture or two. I, for one would be interested in knowing the debt to affection ratio times the condition factor of that horrid green bass. Purely for academic purposes, mind you. Image

i guess i still need to clarify...i DO NOt find sea foam garish or horrid - i was presenting the arguement relative to either poles of the aesthetic taste. those who like it (obviously all of us), find the colour to be a true gem in the history of 400x finishing,; the ?traditionalist? would most likely find it 'garish'. i recall a comment somewhere - where a guy commenting on seafoam said 'i like playing basses; not sweet tarts'.
