My kids DREAM about going to visit "down under" because of this fellow..Sad story. I feel for his wife & family.

OMG. I loved that guy. I wish I had the guts that he had, getting that close to those creatures. He had a great time doing it as well. RIP.

I couldn't believe that when I saw it. He had such passion for what he did. He was the one who helped me come up with my dog's name, Zooey (he had a dog named Zoey but with his Australian accent it came out sounding "zooey").

Words cannot express my sadness.

Howard and I were just talking about him the day before yesterday and then we heard this news. It's unbelievable.

Apparently he will be accorded a state funeral if his family approves. That would be a very fitting tribute for a person who was such a great animal lover and also an important figure in Australian culture.

I was totally shocked when I heard the news yesterday morning and am deeply saddened. Steve did a lot to foster wildlife and environmental conservation - not only in Australia but all around the globe.

I truly hope that his legacy will be much, much more of the same.

RIP, Steve.

Like Howard and Brian, John Williams and I were talking about Steve the night before his tragic death. It seems so surreal.

I will remember watching the Denton interview with Steve. What you saw was no stage act. That guy was genuinely passionate about his family, his country and the environment.

He will be sorely missed the world over.

I hate to say anything bad about the dead but Steve Irwin seemed to live his life a little too much on the edge ... the laws of nature seemed to catch up with him ... if you play with fire enough you get burned ... I feel bad for his wife and kids ...

I feel bad about it, but Jeff is right. Steve had the tendency to **** of a snake and then have it attach it self to his arm. It was only a matter of time before something killed him.

At least he died doing what he loved.

(Personally, I'd rather go doing something I hate.)

My favorite memory of this man was from Dr. Dolittle 2.

Steve Irwin: I am here with Dr. Dolittle, who can actually talk with animals. We're here about to capture this alligator right behind us, The trick to capturing this guy is to put your arms around his neck...
Alligator: Hey Dolittle, What I'm doing is letting Steve think I don't hear him, when he comes for me, I'm gonna turn around and snap his arm off.
[Steve is still talking to camera]
John: Steve, I think he knows we're here.
Steve Irwin: Quiet, I don't wanna spoil the element of surprise, NOW!
[Snapping noise]
Steve Irwin: Crikey! Me arm!

I also remember a cartoon on joecartoon.com about him getting his legs cut off...or something like that.

All jokes aside, it's sad to see him go.
