Auditions: Virtual Band

Post by jdogric12 »

Thanks to everyone's support and enthusiasm for the virtual band concept. (See "A special thank you" in the Confluences topic for clarification.)

The "founders" for official purposes will be myself, Darren Trott, Alisha Tremaine, and John Biscuti. Other forumites are welcome to join as well, and I think we could make a whole CD in this fashion. "Auditions" is a poor word choice, since I don't see anyone "not making the cut."

If you want in, please record yourself playing and/or singing original material only, using Rickenbacker guitars and basses only. Drums, drum machines and vocals are welcome too. Please limit yourself to six minutes. You can send whole songs or snippets of songs. Whatever best shows off your chops, creativity, and Rick tones!

Once your stuff is ready, prepare a single wav file, either 16- or 24-bit, and go to www.yousendit.com and create an account (if you don't yet have one). Upload your file and include me and yourself on the recipient list. Check my profile for my aol address if you need it. Do not post the link to your yousendit file on the forum!!! This is to reduce forum clutter.

You do NOT need to be a virtuoso to participate. You do NOT need a million dollar studio to participate. I will do my best to match people up based on their "audition." Every effort will be made to include as many people as possible, or else the project would be pointless and irrelevant to this wonderful online community.

Also, if you already have an idea of who you want to record with, let me know. I think each song should have at least one "founder," but aside from that, it's anything goes.

Absolutely awesome. My goal is to have a good representation done by the end of the week.

So just to clarify, once we're matched up, we'll be working together to write songs as groups? This sounds like an outstanding idea... and I don't think I've ever heard of it done between members of a community such as this!

Jason... if you need any help with the behind-the-scenes work I'll lend a hand to engineer, mix, master, you name it. Image
What do you mean the Bass is too loud???

Interesting. A question (just curious): the songs should be in English only or could they be in other languages?
Nothing will get you dead quicker than being deadly serious about yourself.

Bob - Thanks. I will let you know as it unfolds.

Sheena - That is a great idea. I'd love to hear your Russian! I am a sucker for any foreign language.

I think this is such a cool idea. The "Bottles" song together very seamlessly and no one could tell that I am in Seattle and Jason's in Florida.
