Rickenbacker Sighting

Post by doctorwho »

I happened to be flipping through channels last night and caught a glimpse of a RIC 4003 on David Letterman's show; fortunately, I was able to pop a tape into the VCR and caught enough of it to get this shot:

The band's name is The New Pornographers. The 4003 appears to be White with black trim.

Very nice capture Gary. Then again, Dr. Who always had the technology.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

The New Pornographers are a band well worth checking out if you're into 70's power pop (Raspberries, Cheap Trick, etc.). Too bad that singer Neko Case doesn't show up in the above picture ...
My basses are Rickenbackers. My synthesizers and recording gear are analog.

Funny - I was just listening to these guys at Borders the other day. . . . not bad!! Power popish with lots of weirdness, but in a lighthearted way.

Yes, that Sonic Screwdriver comes in handy! Now, if I can only remember where I left that Gravitic Anomalizer...

Remember when the Doctor and Romana I (and some other dude) were being slowly stretched on an automatic torture rack, and the Doctor yells out a high pitch scream to try to break the skylight window by sound waves. Romana looks at him in disbelief and says, "Come on Doctor! It's not that bad yet!" ??

Or when Romana asked K-9 a simple question, and K-9 started some drawn out encyclopedic explanation. She interrupts him and says, "Forget it!" and walks away. A second later K-9 says (to no one), "Memory erased!" ??

"Are these 'taxes' some sort of ritual sacrifice, Doctor?"

"Yes, but more painful"

Or something like that, from "The Sunmakers".

"What be 'tea'?"
The Doctor: "Oh, a noxious infusion of oriental leaves...[can't remember the rest, something about containing high levels of something or other] "
"Sounds an evil brew, it does."
The Doctor: "Yes it does. Personally, I rather like it."
From "The Awakening".

Recording the "Doctor Who" theme with a Ric or two would be a fun little project...
