What year/model is this Rickenbacker?

Post by Mike_McMeens »

Hi, I am looking into buying a Rickenbacker Bass.
The owner states that the bass is a model 4000, and the serial # is UD1457.
Any help on what it is, and what it might be worth?.
It appears to be a studio bass.
I had a Ric 23 years ago, sold it and went the Fender route, (please, no stones), but I trying to get back in the fold!
Thanks for any help.

UD indicates that it was made in April of 1981. As for the model, if it has the traditional RIC bass body and has two pick-ups it's a 4001 (but could be a early 4003). If it has just one pick-up then it's a model 4000.
As for value, it's difficult to say for sure without a picture or an accurate description of the bass' condition. It will most likely be between $600-$1000 US dollars, again depending on condition and if it's 100% original or not.
Cheers

I know the bass you are talking about, it is on ebay right now. It's garbage.
