4003S MG from 81- looks decent

Post by relayer4u »

This one looks to be in very good shape, slap a new neck pickup in and off you go?

I'm tapped but I know there's folks that are always looking!:

I assume an 81 4003 anything should be a split guard?

Or is it a 4001S?

If it was a 4001S it would be set neck. And a stripe?

Not sure that the stripe wasn't gone on 4001s at the end. And the S may have been a special order only at that point? Ric still did one of a kinds back then. Could have resulted in a neck trough 4001S.

Need a side shot of the headstock angle for sure.

The back of the neck picture doesn't look anything like my 04 4003 neck at all.

But, it's probably just a 4003S with a replaced PG and a crummy Bart PU after all.

That is an early 4003S. The neck has the rectangular two-piece construction and it has the small head wings. Yes, the truss adjusters are probably at the body so it probably had a split guard.

It has ROS, and the tuners look right for an 81, so I'm guessing pickguard replacement.

Good looking bass.

Yep, she's an '81 4003S all right. Listen to Mr. Ted! The split pickguard has been replaced. Is that a plexi TRC on that one? $1400.00 might be a little on the high side, but she does look to be in nice shape.

The skunk stripe did continue on the 4001 until the end. And I've never seen a neck-through 4001S made after 1971.

Got a feeling it will meet the $1400. Plus.
