4003s/5 on eBay Alert!

Post by bigbajo60 »

My first bass was a Rickenbacker...
My best bass is a Rickenbacker...
My last bass may very well be a Rickenbacker

Keeping in mind the $2,395 Chris Clayton recently got for the Sea Green model he had, it sure does make you wonder what this one at eBay will finally sell for.

This one is turquoise, not sea green. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but turquoise is a standard finish, while sea green was a limited one.

Many new 4003S/5's can still be found here and there at affordable prices.

All the best,

Correct, turquoise is a stock finish. I see Jeff Rath has the current high bid.

I've only got 4 5-string Rics ... aaaaaa .... uuuuu .... yannnaa ... I can't help my self .... I must bid ...

well my Ric addiction is not that bad ... but If I can pick one up for a reasonable price ... then I'm there dude ...

What I really want is a 4003s5 mapleglo or jetglo ...

Also I think I have figured out a way to modify a 4003 into a 5 string without butchering it ... I have an idea on how to modify a Kahler bridge into a functional 5 string bridge for a Ric ... the trick is how to make it work and look good ... I have to get a string spacing of 2 1/4" ... that will be 1/8" wider than a 4003s5 ...

I need to find a good machinist ... If I am right I sould be able to do it in chrome and black ...

Hey ... John Hall ... let me be blunt ...

There has to be a profit in five string basses ... look how much money these used ones go for ... every other manufacturer does and makes money at it ...

God I wish Ric would keep making 5 string single coil 4003 basses ...

Or make the parts so we can easily convert existing 4003 basses ...

Or license someone else to make the parts ...

I'll probably drop out when the bidding gets high ...

And yes bring back the 4003s5 ... the nut width is fine but the bridge spacing is a little tight ...

I like 2 3/8" to 2 1/2" bridge spacing for 5 string basses but the 2 1/16" is not bad when you get used to it ...

Most of the 5 string basses out there have those damn sterile emg soapbar type pickups ... I just love the single coil growl on the low B string ... so we need a Rickenbacker 5 string bass with a nasty growl ...

And don't make the neck too wide ... for instance fender makes a nice 4 string jazz bass ... but their 5 string jazz basses suck ... the neck is so wide, the B string is floppy and dead, the action is high the pickups are lame ... and the neck is sooo wide ... its made for players with huge hands and very long fingers ... playing that bass is too much work.

Yeah, I agree keep the nut the same width, just widen the spacing at the bridge end, that would be great, I'd have one in a second. Love those Ric single coils pickups.

Sold for $1250.

I keep saying it ... Ric needs a good 5 string model ... although at this point any 5 string model would be good ... I would like to see a single coil model, with a string spacing of 2.5" at the bridge and 1 5/8" at the nut ...
