Where to buy caps?

Post by brycycle »

does anyone know of a good on-lin source to buy replacement caps for a 4001? (the rickenbacker minimum purchase and shipping to Canada is just too high for such items).

if so, what exactly will i need to order?

thanks very much.

I recall Mark Walker had a ton of the yellow Cornell Dubilier caps he was selling for essentially postage fees.
I think the thread was in the "For Sale" section.

I believe they were new old stock, but he measured them & they were all well within spec range.
Plus five minus five!

Yep, Mark does have the little yellow .0047 bass cut caps, NOS. I bought a few, and they're perfect. If they're what you need, you're set. I don't think he has the bigger .047 ones though.

Bryce - any electronics store that sells capacitors should have mylar or poly axial lead capacitors in .0047uF and .047uf. 50V ones would be adequate - higher voltages get larger in size, so it depends on how big you want them.

Even Radio Shack has appropriate 0.047µF and 0.0047µF caps.

Ceramics have a higher tolerance range and can sometimes be microphonic but every Chinese guitar has them, with reasonable results.

For the record, I still have more of the yellow Cornell/Dubilier .0047 caps (all NOS) than I'll ever use in my lifetime. $2 for shipping and get-my-butt-down-to-the-post-office incentive, and 50 cents per cap.
