McCartney on American Idol?
McCartney on American Idol?
Buy it before someone else does.
As much as I love Paul I think I'll skip that episode. Just as I have with every episode.

I'll be happy to see it. Macca being on the show seems to be the next evolution (upward) of the program. In alot of ways it's become more than a "talent" competition, but instead a showcase for the music that has driven the "pop" culture. What music other than that of Lennon & McCartney could be said to have driven "pop" culture?

Even though it goes against everything good and holy, I think I agree with Mick. I hope it's just a rumor.

I'd watch it just to see how Macca judges the contestants. Most of whom are not that good BTW. But as a musician/singer, I know how hard it is to stand up and sing with no music to guide you. It's REAL easy to sound bad and off key. Some of rock's greatest stars would have a hard time getting past Simon on that show I think.
I recently went back to playing a Rickenbacker bass. Its like meeting an old friend again

The other day I typed "American Idol worst" into YouTube and spend the next hour or so laughing my *** off.
But it made me think... what if some of today's legends could morph back into their 20 year old form and appear on the show? Just vocally of course, no instruments allowed - and naturally that is very unfair since so many of these legends made it on their group performances and songwriting.
[disclaimer: AI sucks. I just like to hear bad singers.... especially the ones who are convinced that they have great voices]
but still: How would THEY do???
Rod Stewart? - Simon Cowell would probably insult him terribly and boot him out the door.
Tom Petty? - Rejected out of hand I would think.
Bob Dylan? - they'd boot him after one or two lines of the song! [ which brings to mind Woody Guthrie's comment about the young Dylan: "I dont know about his songwriting, but that boy and REALLY SING IT! ]
Elvis? - He'd likely win the whole competition.
Paul McCartney? - He'd do very well.
John Lennon? - Hmmmm, do well or might he get the boot?
George Harrison? - No way he gets through
Mick Jagger? - might get through the first audition on overall presence.
Kief Richards? - fuggedaboudit
Debbie Harry? - they'd love her
Brian Johnson of AC/DC? - Ha! Simon Cowell would say "WHAT WAS THAT????"
Bruce Springsteen? - We'd be seeing clips of HIM on YouTube's American Idol's "worst" singers.
Steven Tyler? - another "WHAT WAS THAT?" moment
--------------and the list goes on and on.
