New vs. old horseshoe

Post by marc61 »

A luthier told me that the new reissue horseshoe doesn't compare at all to the vintage. That the top piece is just plastic and can't possibly magnetize like the original.

Can anyone enlighten me?

Not plastic but also not magnetized! My 85 V63 is magnetized but I haven't played any other long enough to compare.

Marc, take a look through the "Horseshoe PU on the C" thread up in the Rickenbacker C Series forum. John Hall explains on the first page why the current construction is different from the original style, and the discharging/recharging issue is discussed.
