Hello all. I just posted a reply to Jaybyrds inquiry regarding famous Rick 12 string songs in the General section. I won't go into it all again here but would like to recommend for your listening pleasure two songs by Jefferson Airplane that I think help define the Rickenbacker 12 string sound. They are: 'Won't You Try/Saturday Afternoon' from After Bathing At Baxters and 'Eskimo Blue Day' from Volunteers. Had I re-visited this sub-topic before I posted I would have known that Paul Kantners guitar is a 360/12. Thanks Peter. Best to all.

Thanks Dr. for the lowdown on Kantner's Rick 12 string guitar collection. And speaking of Thirty Seconds Over Winterland, I attended the concert at the Auditorium Theater in Chicago, Ill., from which excerpts make up some of the tracks on that album, released in 1973. That was the last time that I saw and heard them play live. Axel's photo contributions show a similar guitar to the one he's playing in the photo on the back cover of Thirty Seconds... which is clearly a 360/12 MG. And here's a
Rickenbacker connection from way out in left field; the front cover of that record depicts...."toasters". Oh oh... I gotta go now.

Nice work Axel. These are great photos. Nothing like black electrical tape for that professional look.

There asre some recent photos of Paul Kantner at Arrowfest 2001 posted on the Rickenbacker Registraton Page. It is clear that he has at least two Rickenbacker 360 Models, one with 21 frets and the other with 24 frets. He used both on September 29, 2001 at Arrowfest.

Mr. Phelps: While custom orders can and do lead to exceptions, the most recent 360/12 instruments with 21 frets would be the discontinued 360/12V64 model, the now complete Carl Wilson 360/12CW model and the soon to be released 360/12C63 model. In general terms the 21 fret 360/12s were crafted prior to 1969 at which time the 24 fret models were phased in. The 360/12F crafted from about 1973 to 1980 was also a 21 fret model. In practical terms, I have seen a number of instruments that were exceptions. Perhaps John Hall could comment with more precision.

Peter: Both 12-strings look to be of pre-1972 vintage from just looking at the pictures. The 24-fret model looks as though the upper pickguard is made of a clear material (lucite??) I wonder how long he has owned these particular guitars??? Anyone know???
They are both cool instruments by anyone's measure!!!
